Abi and Calli

Audio Describer

Abi joined the CaptionMax audio description team in August 2008, shortly after moving to Minneapolis from the partly-sunny city by the bay. For the past two years, her life has revolved around drafting a master’s thesis in folklore at Berkeley--a project which, if all goes as planned, will be finished in December 2008. Then she will have a master’s degree in folklore, simply because it’s fascinating! Her research focuses on the use of folklore in Patrick Suskind’s novel “Perfume”—if you haven’t read it, you should. Ask Abi why.

Before embarking upon the madness that is graduate school, Abi graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with degrees in English, Classics, and German. (Go Huskers!) She also spent time in 2003 as an intern at the Egyptian Museum in Berlin. Between photocopying and creating excel spreadsheets, she pondered the relationship between monotheism, artistic realism, and head binding in ancient Egypt’s 18th dynasty. Which happens to be her very favorite dynasty. A few of her other favorite things are Battlestar Galactica, novels by Margaret Atwood, traveling, hunting for treasure, and playing with her puppy, Calli. Calli’s favorite pastime is destroying toy monkeys, which Abi is now an expert on repairing.
