CaptionMax has two Federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education designed to explore new and better ways to make non-broadcast educational video truly accessible to all learners.
For example, we don't just caption and describe a show; we also author the DVD to ensure that the video is accessible from the moment the user encounters the opening menu. Take a look at the "Spoken Menus" sample at lower right to see how we make it possible for a blind or low vision user to interact easily and effectively with DVD media.
"Great!" you say, "where do I find this stuff?" Here's a list of programs we've done lately. As you can see, where possible, we've provided a link to the program's web page on the distributor's site. We will be updating this list regularly.
Qualified teachers and individuals can also order or download these programs for free loan from the Described and Captioned Media Program or DCMP (link opens in separate window), a Federally-funded program run by the National Association of the Deaf in partnership with the American Foundation for the Blind to make accessible educational media available to students with disabilities and their teachers.
