Some webcast formats allow users to toggle captions on and off, while others do not. In the latter case, to provide users a choice requires two separate files, one with open captions (OC) and one with no captions.
Below are three examples of webcast formats. We can do any other format desired, such as Silverlight™.
-
Flash video: Captioning for Flash uses the DXFP protocol. Our caption editors create an XML file for the Flash author. The author generates an .flv file from the original video file then combines that with the XML file to output an swf file in an html wrapper.

Activate captions when available by selecting "Preferences" from the Edit menu. Open "Player Preferences and check the box "Show Closed Captioning when available."
-
Windows Media Player (v9 or 10): (In V10 the click the arrow next to the minimize bar to get the menu) Click "Play," run the mouse over "Captions and Subtitles" (near the bottom of the menu), then move the mouse right to show the secondary menu. Click "On if available."
