Activating AD on Cable Boxes

The steps for turning SAP on or off your cable system will vary depending on the brands and types of equipment. Every cable system and television hookup presents different challenges.

General guidelines for SAP on cable:

Basic cable does not have SAP capability. If your channels do not go above 99, then you have basic cable, and should manage SAP through the TV.

If you have some form of extended cable (channels above 100) and a remote for the cable box, you may be able to activate SAP from the cable box’s menu:

• Look under “Audio Settings”
• If “Spanish” is listed as an option, select it since Spanish audio is usually on SAP —this will also turn on audio description.
• Look for SAP or MTS as in the directions for television sets, above.

NOTE: Cable boxes vary from provider to provider. If you are unable to access shows you think are described, check with your cable company to find out how to access SAP in your area.
