I have a deaf employee. As part of our program we have to show several video tapes which are not captioned. What do we do?

If you own the copyright to the videos, we can caption them for you. If you do not own the copyright, then your choices are less than ideal:

A. Long term - we recommend that you contact the video company producing the material and encourage them to caption their work. If the videos are distributed to federal agencies, then by law they should be captioned. (Feel free to pass their name to us and we will follow up to offer our services.)

B. Short term:

  1. Have someone watch the videos and create a transcript for the employee to use while watching.

  2. Have an interpreter or CART (computer-assisted real time transcriber) interpret/transcribe the video as the person watches it.
