Courtney spent her childhood mostly in Athens, Georgia, reading and convincing horses to leap over obstacles. Her parents, realizing she needed more time to pursue these activities, let her drop out after second grade and were kind enough to call it "homeschooling."

Eventually, Courtney attended Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating in 2005 with a B.A. in media studies. Tired of Boston's eternal freezing rain, she returned briefly to Georgia, but decided it was too humid and moved to Los Angeles instead.

Courtney was happy to find, at CaptionMax, a job that supports her obsessive nature regarding commonly confused homonyms and apostrophe placement. In her spare time, she enjoys film theory, art history, cooking, and sarcasm. She lives in Studio City with her boyfriend unit and an annual pass to Disneyland.
