Joe spent his formative years in central Illinois -- Normal, Illinois, to be exact -- before making his way to the big city of Minneapolis, having grown weary of those oh-so-funny "Why Be Normal?" novelty hats, mugs, and t-shirts. After graduating from Illinois State University with a degree in Journalism, he put his skills to use originally as a sports and newswriter for newspapers and later in the field of television news monitoring.

Joe is also a graduate of Music Tech in Minneapolis, where he studied drums.He has taught private drum lessons for many years and played in several bands -- most notably the ABBA tribute band "Abbasalutely" (complete with costumes!) as well as a two-year stint in a full-time band which toured throughout the Midwest and played aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean.

Joe credits his father (an English major in college with an impressive vocabulary/spelling background) and mother (a former teacher) for laying the groundwork which led him to CaptionMax in addition to providing never-ending support throughout his personal and professional life.
