GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager of Audio Description, describe broadcast or non-broadcast programs for the blind and low-vision audience.

GENERAL CRITERIA:
Strong writing skills and keen ability to describe on-screen activity. Strong grammar and editing skills. Clear, neutral speaking voice and willingness to record voice. Knowledge of Audio Description process helpful. Willingness to work overtime as needed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Learn and operate video, audio, and word-processing equipment
  • Learn and utilize Adept software to write audio description scripts, including editing and timing
  • Record narration
  • Edit scripts written by others and provide feedback
  • Review audio quality of recorded descriptions and critique
  • Complete projects under deadline environment
  • Document progress of project in stages using Enterprise software
  • Learn and understand audio description process from bid through delivery
  • Solicit feedback from blind and low vision community on styles and standards

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent writing skills (candidate will be asked to write a sample description script and record narration during the interview). Excellent editing and research skills (candidate will take a short editing test during the interview). Familiarity with MS Windows and ability to quickly learn new software.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
BA in English, Communications, or Journalism preferred.
