Translation vs. Localization

What is the difference? Translation is the process of changing the words in a source language to equivalent words in a target language. Localization is a more specialized process, focused more on adaptation that takes cultural factors of a specific target market into consideration, such as local humor or etiquette. Considering the wide variety of cultural, historical and linguistic factors that contribute to an audience's understanding of a message, it's important to adapt the content to your target audience and not just translate it word for word. Simply put: translation is about words, localization is about meaning. No matter what language you're looking for, we can help take your content around the world.

Dubbing consists of substituting the voice of the actors shown on screen by the voice of different performers, known as voice talents. The new audio segments are synced with the existing footage, keeping the dubbed version as close as possible to the original. Dubbing is artistically and technically challenging as the voice talent must not only deliver dialogue that matches the emotion and intent of the original but must also work to match the sounds of the target language to the movement of the speaker's lips.

Translations for lip-sync dubbing must do three things -- contain roughly the same number of syllables as the source English and match as many of the visible vocalizations as possible whilst maintaining the meaning and artistic intent of the source dialogue. Captionmax works with a combination of highly skilled translators and talented voice talents to provide an end result that it is a natural match to the original program. Markets where dubbing is popular include Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
